In Sams words, " The work is all vinyl emulsion on unprimed linen. There is an earthiness in the linen, a rawness and the orbs speak to something cosmic. There is an attempt to connect the earth with the cosmos, a “bringing down of the heavens” to borrow a Qi Gong term. The pieces change as we approach them, the tightness of the work fades and we see that they are handmade objects and the hand asserts itself. The stepped gradients point to an inward focus or an expansion depending on where the light is and also a progression or movement toward something; an awareness, a space, a peace. A combination of movement and stillness. The expansion of the universe, an exploding star, an evolving sky. Mandalas. A shifting consciousness. "
